Artist's Statement

I studied at the Glasgow School of Art, Scotland from 1968 to 1972.

Whilst living in Australia for forty years I really enjoyed the incredible quality of the light on the landscape. The past four years have been entirely different. I lived in Scotland on the Moray coast, where the climate has had a huge influence and change in the direction of my paintings. My interests have always been reflected in my work where surfaces, structure and form have become my greatest passions. Now in 2026 I have returned to Queensland to the Granite Belt.

The landscape is entirely different where large boulders frequently in my work add textures and colours. Geology is everywhere cliffs, pebbles and rock formations are now my sources of inspiration. Different granite colours and lichen on these surfaces I emulate and layer on my canvases.

My ceramic work is varied, sometimes functional, but also mixed media using found timber. Some of my ceramics include the addition of enamel drawings and platinum lustre applied to the glazed pots. Recent work is using terracotta clay producing bottles and bowls.

For further details regarding surfaces, sizes and prices of all artworks please contact the artist.
